Ben Gook

Ben Gook is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Cultural Studies at the University of Melbourne, Australia. From 2017 to 2019, he was an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow with Joseph Vogl at Humboldt University, Berlin. He is interested in psychoanalysis and its intersection with critical cultural, social and political theories. Substantively, he has published on contemporary German history, Australian racial politics and forms of collectivity. Current foci include cultural politics and the conjunctural method in British cultural studies, while he has forthcoming work on libidinal economies, capitalist crises, disaffection and alienation. Publications include Divided Subjects, Invisible Borders: Re-Unified Germany after 1989 (2015), two edited volumes on youth collectivity after the financial crisis, and articles on apathy and ordoliberalism. He is a member of the Critical Research Association Melbourne.
