Bastian studied Philosophy, Sociology and Literature in Freiburg, Rome and Berlin. He received his doctor’s degree in 2012 with a dissertation on Adam Smith and Michel Foucault at Freie University Berlin. His areas of research, publications and teaching mainly are Philosophy of Economics,  Social Philosophy, Critical Theory and Philosophy of Enlightenment.
