The workshop is organized by Rahel Jaeggi & Kristina Lepold together with the Centre for Social Critique.
Topic
This book workshop is dedicated to Charlotte Witt’s recently published and widely acclaimed book Social Goodness: The Ontology of Social Norms. The book starts from the observation that, until very recently, much of mainstream analytic philosophy has ignored the existence of social norms. The question at the heart of Witt’s book is about such norms: What explains the strange fact that individuals are subject to a variety of social norms? What grounds these norms’ authority over us? In this book workshop, we will discuss the book with the author. Short commentaries on the book will be provided by Emil Eschenbach, Kurt Leonhard Halter, Rahel Jaeggi, Hannes Kupfer, Luna Powierski and Livia von Samson.
The book is available as an e-book via the university library.
