Topic

Since the financial crisis of 2007/2008, there has been a continuous series of crises that have been felt globally. Accordingly, there is talk everywhere and in a wide variety of registers of crises, multiple crises, and impending catastrophes. Academic debate on crisis as a concept and phenomenon has also gained new momentum. Despite this revival, the concept of crisis remains analytically vague. That is why, at this conference, we will not only discuss the state of ecological and economic crisis theories, but also examine the fundamental analytical and critical explanatory potential of the concept of crisis for current social transformations: What conceptual role do crises play in understanding processes of social change? How do crises relate to the blocking of change and problem solving? How do crises overlap and intensify into social crises? What is the relationship between crises and social struggles?
